The Valentino haute couture show delighted us by presenting, “an instinctive expression of the impulse to create in shapes, volumes, silhouettes and cuts. Essential wardrobe basics such as blazers, men’s coats, hoodies and parkas re-interpreted into “haute couture objects” through idiosyncratic, almost paradoxical combinations with traditional haute couture models.” Likewise, Jean Paul Gaultier by Simone Rocha, exhibited his couture side of the well-known brand through a celebration of the designer’s feminine, sensual and sexy features, assimilating enormous ballerina shapes made of dozens of layers of tulle, among others. Led by Maria Grazia Chuiri and supporting the ‘quiet luxury’ fashion trend, Dior invited us to “a conversation between two apparently contradictory fabrics. An exploration of plain cotton, on the one hand, and the understated but incredibly beautiful properties of moiré fabric, on the other, most of it filtered through a skillful reinterpretation of Christian Dior silhouettes from the 1950s.”
